The direct answer

ISO 27001 readiness is the work done before an external audit: defining the scope of your information security management system, assessing gaps against the standard, recording risks and treatments, writing policies and collecting evidence. We do the readiness work only. Certification itself is issued by an accredited certification body, which is a separate step you commission.

Before and after

What this removes.

Nobody knows where to start

Today

The standard runs to dozens of clauses and controls, and the team cannot tell what applies to the business.

With the system

A scoped gap assessment shows what you already do, what is missing and in what order to close it.

Policies exist but nobody follows them

Today

Documents copied from templates sit in a folder and do not match how people actually work.

With the system

Policies are short, written around your real processes, and each one points to the evidence that proves it.

Risk is a feeling, not a register

Today

Security spending follows the last incident or the loudest voice in the room.

With the system

A risk register ranks threats by likelihood and impact and links each one to a treatment and an owner.

Several frameworks, one team

Today

NCA ECC, PDPL and a customer's ISO 27001 request each arrive as a separate project with duplicate work.

With the system

One control set is mapped across frameworks so the same evidence answers more than one request.

In depth

How it works, and what to decide.

What readiness covers and what it does not

ISO/IEC 27001 is a standard for an information security management system, usually called an ISMS. It is less a list of technical settings than a method: define the scope, assess risk, choose controls, operate them, check them and improve them. The clauses describe the management system. Annex A lists reference controls across organisational, people, physical and technological themes, and the 2022 edition reorganised them into 93 controls.

Our work stops at readiness. That means a scope statement, a gap assessment, a risk register, a Statement of Applicability, the policy set, a working internal audit and a management review. Certification is a different activity. It is performed by a certification body that has been accredited to audit against the standard, and you choose and contract that body yourself. We do not issue certificates and we cannot promise an audit result or a date, because the auditor decides. What we can do is make sure that when the auditor arrives, your documents, records and people tell the same story.

How the work runs with your team

A good readiness project is mostly conversation. We start with scope, because a narrow, honest scope (for example one product line and the cloud platform behind it) is cheaper to prepare and easier to defend than a vague company-wide claim. You can widen it later. Then we interview process owners in IT, HR, procurement, legal and operations, and compare what they say with what systems and tickets show.

From there we build the risk register with you, not for you. Risk ratings are your business judgement, so the owners must be in the room. Controls follow from risk, and the Statement of Applicability records which Annex A controls you apply and why you exclude any others. Policies are written last and kept short. Expect 8 to 16 weeks for a mid-sized company with one or two sites, depending on how much evidence already exists and how quickly owners respond. After the audit body is engaged, a first-stage review of documents is followed by a second stage that looks at how controls operate in practice, so operating records matter as much as documents.

Fitting ISO 27001 beside Saudi requirements

Saudi companies rarely face one framework alone. The National Cybersecurity Authority publishes the Essential Cybersecurity Controls, which many government-linked and critical-sector organisations must meet, and the Personal Data Protection Law sets duties for anyone handling personal data. These are separate obligations from ISO 27001, and meeting one does not meet another. They overlap heavily, though: access control, logging, incident response, supplier management and business continuity appear in all of them.

So we map your control set across frameworks once. A single access control procedure, with its evidence, can be shown against the relevant ISO 27001 control, the matching NCA ECC control and the PDPL security duty. This saves months of duplicate documentation and makes later projects cheaper. If your first priority is the NCA requirement or personal data, we pair this work with our NCA ECC readiness and PDPL engineering services, and with secure development practice if you build software. Customers ask for ISO 27001 evidence in tenders and security questionnaires, so having a prepared scope and Statement of Applicability also speeds up sales conversations.

The delivery plan

Five stages. You sign off every one.

Read each stage as a small contract: what we need from you, what lands in your hands, and the sentence that has to be true before we move on.

01 / 04

Scope and kickoff

1 to 2 weeks

We agree the ISMS scope, name the owners and plan interviews and access to documents.

What you do
  • Choose the business unit and systems in scope
  • Name an executive sponsor
  • Share existing policies and diagrams
What we deliver
  • A scope statement
  • An interview and evidence plan
  • A project timeline
Exit criteria

We move on when the scope is written and an executive sponsor has signed it.

02 / 04

Gap assessment

2 to 3 weeks

We compare your practice to the clauses and Annex A controls through interviews and sampled evidence.

What you do
  • Make process owners available
  • Provide samples such as access reviews and tickets
  • Correct factual errors in our findings
What we deliver
  • A gap report by clause and control
  • A ranked remediation list
  • A draft asset inventory
Exit criteria

We move on when the gap report is reviewed with leadership and priorities are agreed.

03 / 04

Risk and controls

3 to 5 weeks

We run risk workshops, build the register, choose treatments and write the Statement of Applicability and policies.

What you do
  • Rate risks with us in workshops
  • Approve treatments and owners
  • Review and adopt the policies
What we deliver
  • A risk register and treatment plan
  • A Statement of Applicability
  • A policy and procedure set
Exit criteria

04 / 04

Internal audit and review

2 to 4 weeks

We test the system through an internal audit, hold a management review and close the findings before an outside audit.

What you do
  • Fix findings from the internal audit
  • Attend the management review
  • Select an accredited certification body when ready
What we deliver
  • An internal audit report
  • A management review pack
  • An evidence index for the auditor

We move on when internal findings are closed or accepted and leadership has reviewed the system.

Buyer questions

Asked before signing.

Can you guarantee us an ISO 27001 certificate?

No. Certification is issued by an accredited certification body after its own audit, and you contract that body directly. We prepare your scope, risks, policies and evidence so you go into the audit ready, but we cannot promise an outcome or a date.

How long does readiness take?

For a mid-sized company with one or two sites, readiness usually takes 8 to 16 weeks. The range depends on how much documentation and evidence already exist, how wide the scope is and how fast process owners respond.

Does ISO 27001 replace NCA ECC or PDPL?

No. They are separate obligations. NCA ECC and the Personal Data Protection Law are Saudi requirements, while ISO 27001 is an international standard. The controls overlap, so we map them once and reuse evidence across all three.

Can we start with a narrow scope?

Yes, and we often advise it. A single product line and its supporting platform is quicker to prepare and easier to defend. You can widen the scope in later cycles once the management system is running.

Do you also fix the technical gaps we find?

We can. The gap report separates policy gaps from technical ones. Technical fixes such as logging, access control or backup changes can be scoped as a separate engagement, or your own IT team can carry them out with our guidance.
